Spring Air says new mattress line achieves environmental first

The company's Sleep Sense BioMax collection of four beds has been documented to meet several key environmental standards and has earned a level II seal in the Specialty Sleep Assn.'s Environmental & Safety Program, officials said.

The beds feature Oeko-Tex Standard 100-certified latex foam and panel fabrics, CertiPUR-US-certified polyurethane foam components, and other eco-friendly components.

"With so much misinformation about ‘green' and ‘natural' sleep products in the market, consumers have a right to know how and what their mattresses are made of," said Rick Robinson, Spring Air president.

He said the new line aims to offer combinations of materials that are environmentally superior and performance driven.

"As a brand trusted by consumers for 85 years, we believe in continuing to earn that trust in everything we make and everything we do," Robinson said. "As a long-standing major ‘S' brand, we decided to take a lead position on environmental responsibility and to be truthful and accountable in marketing the ecologic and human benefits of our products."

The new BioMax line, with a 20-year warranty, retails from $1,299 to $2,199 in queen. The beds are encased in a silver-infused knit/suede zippered cover, certified by Oeko-Tex to contain no harmful substances. Silver is anti-bacterial, static-reductive and dust mite-resistant, Robinson said.

Like other Sleep Sense products, the new BioMax beds use Spring Air's patented, multi-level core design. The BioMax poly foam core is CertiPUR-US-certified and has varying heights of foam designed to deliver support and pressure reduction at strategic body points.

Interlocked with those foam cores are premium comfort and support layers, which include Conforma foam, memory foam and Oeko-Tex 100-certified Talalay latex, depending on the model.

A Celsion latex topper covers the proprietary interlocking design to help dispel body heat and regulate sleep temperature through the night.

Exclusive "tri-scalloped" borders were designed to highlight the zones of pressure relief and lumbar support in the beds and give them a unique profile, Robinson said. The border treatments will help retail sales associates and consumers visualize the support design in the beds, the company said.
