The Red Hot Chilli Peppers: Rock, Hip-Hop, Funk & Supreme Longevity Part 1
. The industry of music continues to evolve, where dog eats dog, but such laws don't apply to RHCP. The group, headed by lead rapper Anthony Keidis and bassist Flea, have reunited with producer Rick Rubin, who helped them breakthrough with Blood Sugar Sex Magik in 1991. This time RHCP forges ahead without John Frusciante, Josh Klinghoffer replaces him as guitarist for the band. Their looming opus is set for an August 30th release and Flea tells AllHipHop.com that this marks a bold, new era for the vets. In this exclusive interview, Flea talks about all things Red Hot, but delves deep into the group, their relationships and even Hip-Hop music. (Click here to read the full Q&A of Flea speaking on J. Flea: Good, man, what's happening?
AllHipHop.com: Nothing much, man. I'm glad to be with you on the phone right now. I'm a big fan.
Flea: Oh, thank you very much. I appreciate that.
AllHipHop.com: Okay. So, I know we don't have a whole lot of time. So, I just want to get a few questions in with you. First thing's first. Can you speak on the new album? What's the sound going to be like this time?
Flea: It's, uh ... well, it's a pretty, you know, covers a pretty wide range, emotionally and stylistically, kind of like we always do, you know what I mean. Like, you know, for me, when I was a kid, um, and I as in junior high, the biggest fan in the world was Earth, Wind and Fire. They were my favorite band growing up. Thatâs okay. But my, but my point was that growing up â like, the thing that I loved about them so much was â I mean, Iâm gonna talk about the music that I love, but, what I really loved about them was that they were for everybody.
AllHipHop.com: Right.
Flea: And not like in a wishy-washy sell-out kind of way for everybody, but in the music is for everybody type of way. I mean, the music appealed to everybody. The music was universal. I mean, old people, young people, you know, every economic background, every ethnicity.
AllHipHop.com: Right.
Flea: You know, they were a Black band, but Black people loved them, White people loved them. You know, the Mexican people loved them in L.A. where I grew up. You know everybody.
