Lisbon Police Reports 7-20
- A caller reported seeing juveniles in the Morning Journal parking lot throwing fireworks at vehicles at 10:24 p.m. Sunday. An officer found the juveniles and told them to stop, and the youths told him they were out of fireworks anyway.
- Police were called to an apartment house on North Market Street at 9:19 p.m. Sunday and remained while an ambulance arrived to take the resident to the hospital.
- Sara Pierce reported she was housesitting on Sunset Drive and was told to call if there was any profanity going on at the basketball court at the swimming pool. The call was at 5:12 p.m. Sunday, and Pierce said the players were "dropping F bombs." An officer spoke with the youths about their language.
- Bruce Conkle, Pritchard Avenue, came to the police station on Saturday to report Tiffany Walls had stolen his car and cell phone was headed to Wellsville. She also took $20 from his pants pocket while he was asleep. The vehicle was returned by the time Conkle got home. Walls was later arrested at her home on West Washington Street and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
- A caller reported at 2:25 a.m. Saturday that people living above Gary Johnson's former barbershop were outside being loud and she could not sleep. The officer spoke with the juveniles and advised them to take it inside.
- Jacob Wilson, West Lincoln Way, reported Friday his home was burglarized and his $350 Xbox game system was stolen. - The clerk at the Days Inn called at 11 p.m. Friday about a party going on in a room. The room was being rented by five males from Canada and they were told the fire code limits four people to a room, so three agreed to leave for the night. The officer arrived and smelled marijuana mixed with cologne, and they were told the manager wanted them out and not to come back. The Canadians said they were leaving anyway.

Some shellfish gathering in Washington state closed due to ...
All of King County and most of the eastern portion of Kitsap County in Washington state have been closed to shellfish gathering after tests this week revealed the presence of toxins that can cause paralytic shellfish poisoning.
Recreational harvest of everything from geoducks, butter and razor clams to oysters, mussels, snails and scallops are shut down until further notice, according to the Washington State Department of Health. Workers with Public HealthSeattle & King County plan to post warning signs along area beaches.
The closures are not unusual. The foggy overcast mornings and hotter afternoons have helped set up perfect conditions for blooms of microscopic marine organisms that release potentially deadly neurotoxins.
"If this weather pattern continues, I think the sites that are toxic will probably become more toxic and new sites, maybe all the way down into Pierce County, will join them," said Frank Cox, with the shellfish program at the Washington State Department of Health. "All we can do is monitor, watch and wait and see."
The toxins that cause paralytic shellfish poisoning get sucked up by filter-feeding shellfish and can sicken and in some cases kill people. Only some of the neurotoxins produce "red tides," and not all red tides are harmful. The toxins can't be seen, and can't be killed by cooking or freezing.
