Fitness: Instructor motivates students to do absolute best
Fitness instructor Allison Quinlan from the Seacoast YMCA in Portsmouth excels as both a trainer and triathlon competitor, as she uses her expertise in fitness to get the best out of herself and her trainees.
"Allison is a formidable force here and we're lucky to have someone of her talents," said Seacoast YMCA Health Director Alexis Mason. "She's just a different kind of fit and she brings fitness to a totally new level."
Quinlan is more than qualified as she is a NSCA and AFAA Certified Personal Trainer as well as being a Les Mills certified BodyPump, RPM and BodyAttack instructor. She has an uncanny ability to get the most of whoever she's training as her goal is to simply help people find their way in fitness.
"I can't say enough about Allison, she has an unbelievable ability to lead and motivate people so that they can do their absolute best," said Mason.
For more than five years now Quinlan has been teaching Les Mills classes. Her BodyPump classes are on Wednesdays at 10 am. It's a 60-minute original barbell class that is meant to strengthen your entire body. Quinlan loves the fact that her fitness classes can be for everyone and truly make for a full body workout.
"People of any level of fitness can take my classes because you can use as much or as little weight as you want with the barbell," she said. "I'm a huge fan of cardio so my workouts consist of a lot of reps hitting every muscle group. It's a lot of fun to me as you're constantly listening to music, changing pace, and tempo in a room full of people motivating each other."

When Quinlan's not with her family or working, she's more recently found her way into competing in different triathlons around New England. Looking for a new thrill to test her overall fitness it seems like she's found her niche.
"I've always loved biking and running so I wanted to try something bigger and new to test myself," said Quinlan. "I think it's good for people to try a wide variety of different things."
Now in her second year of competing she's already had immense success, always finishing near the the top of her different competitions. Last May she placed third in her first event — a duathlon. She's moved up and placed second and third as well since then. She also placed first in last August's Vermont Journey. Since then she's just taken off to the point where these competitions are becoming a monthly thing and she has realized it's something she's good at.
