'So You Think You Can Dance': Top Six Perform
We’re only a week away from the finale, Cat tells us, très elegante in a beige-gold kind of sheer sort of filigree dress with sleeves that bell at the cuffs (it’s beautiful and I want it and will be checking Cat’s twitter for where to get it. Last week’s apparently came from The Top Shop, which I can actually afford). The top 6 are competing for the right to be in it.
They keep saying “it’s your top 6” as if only America voted and chose. I don’t buy that, but OK.
Tonight the dancers will each have two routines, one with an all-star, one matched with one of the other, and one solo tonight. Only four will make the finale.
Most of the dances tonight end up being some kind of contemporary. But Caitlynn draws a Samba, Marko draws a Paso Doble and Ricky draws “Whacking.” Melanie gets challenged with Hip Hop.
Tonight’s judges are Christina Applegate, in a very sparkly dress, Lil C, Mary Murphy (a two shoulder dress and a lot of cleavage), and Nigel Lythgoe, back in a tie.
Cat asks Nigel about last weekend and National Dance day, and he describes how great it was. We see two submissions people sent in. Maybe it’s hokey, but I do like seeing the videos (and there will be more tomorrow), particularly the one from a nuclear research laboratory in Geneva dancing.
Melanie and all-star Twitch get what I think is Hip Hop from NappyTabs. And it has a plot. It’s Red Riding Hood. In this version the wolf is meant to be afraid of Little Red, it’s Little Red Swaggy Hood.
“Roman’s Revenge” by Nicki Minaj. There are prop trees and I think Twitch howls. Melanie’s in a red sparkly sleeveless top and vinyl leggings and boots. It’s actually kind of silly looking. She’s not as sharp as Hip Hop but she emotes nicely. Nice kind of somersault lift onto his shoulders. But I can’t take my eyes off Twitch. It is funny when she walks him like a pet at the end. “Here boy, here boy,” Cat says.
Lil C congratulates her for getting through the routine, because it’s fast and the music’s hard to dance to. He explains that Hip Hop is a response to life in the ghetto. It’s different from the dance style that she’s used to. So in the beginning she was shaky but got better at the “dungeon dragon.”
Christina starts off by saying “you give me hope.” Sigh. This is not a critique, but I guess it’s nice. She says nothing of substance except to agree she liked the strut.
