Seabee Days: 1965 Chevy Impala big winner at car show

A 1965 Chevy Impala whose owner blended two shades of red to give it a brilliant candy-apple color took the top prize in Saturday’s 2011 Seabee Days car show at Naval Base Ventura County, Port Hueneme.

Bobby Jackson of Ventura picked up the Best in Show award, one of 40 awards given out that day.

“The base coat is a 1976 Ferrari Red, and the clear coat is shot with a 1986 Honda Red,” Jackson said.

The Impala is Jackson’s only collectible, and he enters it in several Los Angeles and Ventura-area car shows each year.

Among those admiring it was Nelson Brown, an Air Force veteran from Highland who was visiting Seabee Days with his wife, JoeAnn, and daughter Myah, 8.

“I’m loving this,” he said of Seabee Days, which he found out about through his daughter, Justine Blanche, who’s in the Navy. “I had no idea the Seabees had been around so long. Now I know.”
