China rating agency cuts US credit rating
A Chinese ratings agency on Wednesday downgraded the US credit rating from A-plus to A, saying the deal to lift the debt ceiling won’t solve underlying US debt problems or improve its debt-paying ability over the long run, Reuters reports . Dagong Global Credit Rating, a relative newcomer to sovereign debt rating realm and little known outside of China, said in a statement that the US decision to raise the borrowing ceiling will not change the fact that the growth of its debt has outpaced its overall economic growth and fiscal revenue.Brazil steps up fight against imports Brazil has stepped up its fight against cheap imports from Asia, strengthening border controls and increasing antidumping measures, as well as offering $16bn in tax breaks to revive the country’s own flagging manufacturers, the FT reports . Despite enjoying one of the highest growth rates in the world, Brazil has seen its industry shrivel over recent months as a result of the surging local currency, which has made exports less competitive and encouraged cheap imports, mainly from China.

Danone buys Wockhardt nutrition’s unit India’s Wockhardt has signed an agreement to sell its nutrition business to French dairy giant Danone for about EUR250m ($355m), the WSJ reports . Under the agreement, Danone will acquire the Indian pharmaceutical company’s nutrition business and brands–Dexolac, Farex, Nusobee and Protinex–as well as its related industrial operations, Danone said in a statement. Separately, Wockhardt said its strategy to consolidate and rationalize all its core operations is showing encouraging results. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and various approvals, the company said in a statement.
